Paris says no to Prince concert under the Eiffel Tower

Prince wanted to give a free charity concert under the Eiffel Tower on the 14th of July, but Paris town council has rejected his demands judging the project “incompatible with the traditional French national fireworks” says an AFP press report today. Prince’s French tour producer Jackie Lombard has received a refusal letter from Paris town council claming that “two events like Prince concert and French national day fireworks could not live together”.

Nevertheless, “concerts from Johnny Hallyday and Michel Polnareff have already gone together with French national day fireworks in the past” comments Prince’s producer, who submitted to the town council other dates in september associated with an association fighting against VIH/AIDS. “There are already two events organized in september: a George Michael concert and a Solidarité Sida concert. We could give a big spotlight on aids ” added Lombard. Paris town council has yet to give an answer.

Update: Prince’s camp released this statement via drfunkenberry web site:
“PRINCE NEVER PROPOSED 2 PLAY THIS EVENT. NO ONE FROM R “TEAM” R HOPING 2 “HOLD” ANYTHING. THE FRENCH PRESS WOULD B BETTER SERVED FOCUSING ON THE ECONOMY.”
